10 Digit Dialing
Changes in the phone system will soon require that all local calls be
dialed using the area code. This means dialing to the internet will also require dialing
the area code. You will need to change your computer's dialing settings to
accommodate this.
To set your computer up for 10 digit dialing use the following procedure:
For Windows 98 and Windows ME
1. Click on START then SETTINGS then click on CONTROL PANEL.
2. In the control panel double click on the MODEMS icon.
3. In the modems properties window click on the DIALING PROPERTIES
button.
4. In the dialing properties window click on the AREA CODE RULES
button.
5. In the area code rules window put a check in the box for
"Always dial the area code (10 digit dialing)"
6. Click OK several times to get back to the control panel then
close the control panel.
For Windows 95
1. Double click on My Computer
2. Double click on Dial up Networking
3. Right click on your connection icon and then click on Properties
4. Uncheck the "Use area code and dialing properties" box.
The area code field will now be gray.
5. Add 419 to the
beginning of the phone number field.
6. Click OK
to save the changes
For Windows 2000
1. Click Start then Settings then "Network and Dialup
Connections"
2. Right click on your connection icon and then click on Properties
3. Uncheck the "Use dialing rules" box. The area
code field will now be gray.
4. Add 419 to the
beginning of the phone number field.
5. Click OK
to save the changes
Fox Windows XP
1. Click Start then
Control Panel
2. Click on Network and
Internet Connections
3. Right click your
connection icon
4. Uncheck the box labeled
"use dialing rules"
5. Add 419 to the
beginning of the phone number field.
6. Click OK
to save the changes
For IMac
1. Click on the APPLE menu at
the top left
2. Point at control panels
in the menu
3. Click on Remote Access
4. Retype the phone number
so it includes the area code.
5. Close the window and
click Save when prompted.
For other Mac or other operating systems
1. just add the area code in front of the phone number that it
dials. |
