In January we sold our teardrop camper that Alice bought on EBay 10 years ago, . Since then we had been shopping for a new camper. I kind of got a burr up my ass and decided I wanted to convert a cargo trailer into a camper. After researching different trailers I settled on a Neo brand. It's an all aluminum trailer which cost more but kept the weight down. I talked to a dealer in Wooster and even went over twice, a 1.5 hour drive from home. The former Amish man turned non-Amish never returned my calls and lost a sale.
I found another dealer, as Neo only uses dealers, no direct sales, in Powell, Ohio only 35 minutes from home. Doug at Riverside Trailer Sales talked a good line. We worked to get specs the way I wanted and ended up with a plan. I made a deposit and the trailer was supposed to be delivered April 23rd.
Corona virus hit and shut down the factory in Sturgis, Michigan. The trailer finally got delivered on June 23rd. The camper door and 3 windows were in as was insulation, walls and ceiling. They put in the ceiling fan and had to do all the 12 volt and 120 volt electric. My warranty would be voided if I did that stuff myself. I built the bed frame, table, screen paneling and counter top cabinet, laid flooring and other extras. A futon mattress 8 inches thick makes sleeping comfortable. There were some flaws that the dealer screwed up but I'm working on them, such as no porch light. We got a ramp loading light instead. The big window doesn't close correctly either. I will make a run to the company at a later date for repairs.
We took it to Hailee's house July 4th, Indian lake and Delaware State Park for trail runs before everything was finished. Using the Jeep Liberty I see a big drop in gas mileage. 8.5 gpm. I tuned up the Jeep since it had 97000 miles on the orignal spark plugs and we will hope that helps with gas mileage.
The big trip is scheduled for September 23rd. We are planning on doing the Blue ridge Parkway and ending up in Asheville, North Carolina for a week in a half. That report is coming later. Let's go CAMPING.
