Windows 98 Internet Connection Wizard
Click START then Settings then "Control Panel". In the control
panel open up the "Internet Options" icon. (Older versions may just say
Internet) Click on the CONNECTIONS tab then click on the SETUP button. This will
start the connection wizzard.
Click on "I have an existing Internet Account..." or for 2nd edition on
"I want to set up my internet account manually".
Click on "Select this option if you are accessing the internet using and internet
service provider" then click NEXT.
Click on "Connect using my phone line" then click NEXT.
Put
in the phone number to dial from your user sheet then click NEXT.
Put in your username and password from your user
sheet then click NEXT.
Click NO to "Do you want to change the advanced
settings" then click NEXT.
Type in Redbird as the connection name then click
NEXT.
Click "yes" to set up an internet mail
account then click NEXT.
Put in your real name and
click NEXT.
Put in your email address (from your user sheet) then
click NEXT.
Set the email server type to
POP3 then type in mail.redbird.net for both the incoming and the outgoing mail server
names, then click NEXT.
Type in your username and
password then click NEXT.
Leave the mail account name the way it is and click NEXT.
For first edition only: Click
"yes" to set up an internet news account now" then click NEXT 3 times.
Type in "news.redbird.net" for the news server name then click NEXT
twice.
Click "no" to
"Do you want to setup an internet directory service account then click NEXT and then
click Finish.
From the desktop, double click on "My Computer"
then on "Dial up Networking". Right click on the Redbird icon and select
properties.
Remove the checkmark for "Use area code and dialing
properties"
Put the area code in with the phone number all in the same entry
box. If you have call waiting put *70, (that's star seven zero comma) before the
area code.
Click OK to save the changes and close any open windows. |
